Patient's are required to fast for the abdominal Ultrasound for many reasons:
*If you are having an abdominal and pelvic scan at the same time, we suggest ONLY drinking WATER to fill your bladder. Otherwise, no fluids or food before your abdominal scan!
A full bladder acts as a window to visualize certain structures:
As long as you are comfortable, our sonographers have no issue performing internal exams with patients who are on their menstrual cycle/bleeding. This will have no impact on your Ultrasound results.
YES! The technologist will ask you to empty your bladder before a transvaginal exam is performed.
It is important to empty as much as you can to limit the amount of bladder shadows over pelvic structures internally.
No, Ultrasound does not use radiation. Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to produce an image. There are currently no known harmful effects of Ultrasound to humans.
The Ultrasound gel is a water based gel that does not stain clothing. At worst, your clothes can get a little damp from the gel. All Ultrasound comes off in the wash. Leftover gel left on your skin will come off easily in the shower.
No, you do not need to call us to book an X-Ray appointment. All X-Rays are now by walk-in.
